Most people take about three years to attain the rank of Black Belt. In our system, Black Belt means that you have mastered the basics.

Testing for First Degree Decided Black Belt requires a 4 - 6 month evaluation period and a (minimum) 2-hour test involving multiple forms, personal one-steps, sparring and board breaking.

Major Objectives

• To have enough Focus, Power and Technique to complete the Board Breaking Requirements.

• To be able to perform all Forms to present rank and to work effectively with another individual on these Forms.

• To augment the art of Free Sparring with precision. Flowing offensive maneuvers, fluid blocks and effective counterattacks should be displayed with complete accuracy.

• To have Body Memory in the vast majority of techniques learned throughout training and to develop a personal style in self-defense situations.

• To perfect 3 personal One-Steps using the Keys to Perfect Technique as a guide and using imagination as a tool to develop creativity.

• 1st Degree Black Belt Recommended students will be able to perform Advanced Kicking Techniques in a number of situations, and will demonstrate Gwang Gae Form.

Gwang Gae was the 19th king of the Ko-Ku-Roy Dynasty. An ambitious ruler, he greatly expanded his empire, counting Manchuria among his conquests.

• To show by example that they are worthy of the title "Sir" or "Ma'am." Your conduct both inside and outside the academy is a reflection on yourself, your family and your instructors.
