Red Belt Study Guide—"Achievement"

Major Objectives

• To have enough Focus, Power, and Technique to complete the Board Breaking Requirements.

• To be able to demonstrate all Forms to present rank with precision.

• To develop Free Sparring into an art in itself. Flowing offensive maneuvers should be combined with fluid blocks and counterattacks.

• To have a better knowledge of how all material relates to Body Memory in self-defense situations.

• To perfect 3 personal One-Steps using the Keys to Perfect Technique as a guide and using imagination as a tool to develop creativity.

• 2nd grade students will demonstrate Hwa-Rang Form and 5 advanced kicking techniques.

Hwa-Rang is named after the youth group that originated in the Silla Dynasty in the early 7th century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division, where taekwondo developed into maturity.

• 1st grade students will demonstrate Chung Mu Form and 10 advanced kicking techniques.

Chung Mu was the name given to the great Admiral Yi Soon-Sin of the Yi Dynasty. He was reputed to have invented the first armored battleship (Kobukson) in 1592, which is said to be the precursor of the present day submarine. This pattern ends with a left hand attack to symbolize his regrettable death, having no chance to show his unrestrained potential that was checked by the forced reservation of his loyalty to the King.
